Visitors of Minnesota will probably be most eager to know the prevailing sales tax of the state. According to Minnesota State taxes, the sales tax of most of the products in the state is at 6.5%. At the same time, for Minnesota residents, the state imposes a use tax that was purchased from other states but used within Minnesota. On the other hand, residents of Minnesota would be more interested with Minnesota State taxes pertaining to income tax. The prevailing income tax rates are divided into three brackets. These are 5.35 %, 7.05 %, and 7.85 %. The breakdown is show below.
For the single taxpayers the rates and brackets are as follows:
• 5.35% on the first $21,510 of taxable income
• 7.05% on taxable income between $21,511 and $67,360
• 7.85% on taxable income of $67,361 and above.
For the married couples who are filing together:
• 5.35% on the first $29,980 of taxable income
• 7.05% on taxable income between $29,981 and $119,100
• 7.85% on taxable income of $119,101 and above.
Like most states, the Minnesota State taxes or the income tax returns are filed before the 15th of April of the tax year. However, some adjustments or extra days may apply. This can happen of the due date falls on a weekend or holiday or if the state law or federal law is providing extensions for taxpayers to complete filing.
The personal and real property tax bills are received from their corresponding counties or cities during the spring season. The tax bill is affected by three factors. This includes the amount of local government services for that community, how the property is used, and the assessed market value of the property. The property assessor is the one who decides on the classification, for example home, farm, cabin, business, apartment, etc. Each class has a different percentage of taxable value.
